The Truman Institute Summer Academies offer a number of important employment opportunities for students interested in improving their resume and making an difference in the lives of youth. Access the links below for application packets for a number of positions.

 

Preceptor – Joseph Baldwin Academy

JBA Preceptor App 2018

Preceptors are responsible for assisting in classroom instruction during the day and supervising engaging activities during the afternoons, evenings, and weekends.  The assignment is a full-time position spanning approximately 3.5 weeks in June or July.  Preceptors are typically nominated by faculty, but at-large applications for vacant positions are acceptable.

 

Video Producer/Videographer – Joseph Baldwin Academy

The Video Producer(s) complete videos depicting the life at the Joseph Baldwin Academy.  The producer lives in the residence hall, capturing video for a short preview video (ten minutes) and an extended 90-minute DVD depicting classroom work and activities.  Previous experience with video recording and production is expected.

 

Night Monitor – Joseph Baldwin Academy

The night monitor is responsible for supervising the residence hall after hours during either the June or July session (or both) of the academy.  The night monitor patrols the halls at night and responds to student needs that may occur after hours.

 

Night Monitor – Combined STAPH/Taiwan at Truman

Preceptor – Summer Talent Academy for Professions in Health

Preceptors for STAPH are responsible for assisting in classroom instruction during the day and supervising engaging activities during the afternoons and evenings.  The assignment is a full-time position spanning approximately 10 days in June.  Students may self-nominate.  Preference is given to students in a pre-health profession or biology major, or to students who have significant experience in health topics by virtue of some co-curricular activities.

Preceptor – Taiwan at Truman

Taiwan at Truman (TAT) App 2018

Preceptors for TAT are responsible for assisting in classroom instruction during the day and supervising engaging activities during the afternoons and evenings.  The assignment is a full-time position spanning approximately 5 weeks in late June and July.  Students may self-nominate.  It is presently anticipated that the program will only be hiring female preceptors for summer 2017 (as the partner school in Taiwan alternates genders each year).  However, interested males are encouraged to apply for advanced consideration for 2018.  Mandarin Chinese is not a requirement for this program as the chief objective of the program is English language learning.  However, we typically try to hire one or two preceptors with Chinese language experience to aid in emergency translations.  Students who are interested in languages, ESL instruction, or secondary education can uniquely benefit from working in this program.
